Learn to Knit Series

This series is designed to meet students where they are and is customizable to your learning and commitment needs. Classes are two hours long and are held in two sessions in person. Learn at your own pace.

Class size is limited and pre-registration is required. Students are welcome to shop 30 minutes prior to class start time and will receive a 10% discount on class supplies.

301: Let’s Knit a Hat! It's time to use what you've learned in 101 and 201, and knit a hat!  This hat will be the perfect accessory to compliment your scarf/cowl and fingerless mitts.

Class will be held in-person at KnitWit on Danforth St. in Portland, Maine.

PRE-REQUISITES:

• 101 and/or 201

OR

• able to perform long-tail cast on, knit stitch, purl stitch, reading patterns, and understanding gauge

SUPPLIES NEEDED:

• 2 skeins/balls of yarn (Worsted weight approx. 100 yds. ea. of your C1 and C2)

• Circular Size US 5 (3.75mm) and US 7 (4.5mm) needles 16”
• US 7 (4.5mm) DPN’s OR US 7 (4.5mm) circular needle 32” in length for working Magic Loop for crown shaping

• 4 stitch markers (one of a different color)
• darning needle
• crochet hook
• measuring tape or ruler
• snips or scissors
• pompom maker or pompom

TECHNIQUES WE’LL LEARN:

• using stitch markers
• knitting in the round with circular needles
• small circumference knitting in the round (DPN’s or Magic Loop)
• changing project color (adding another ball of yarn)
• decreasing (k2tog and ssk)
• Pompom construction
